New Dog Rescue Specializing in Seniors in the Lowcountry

Salty Dogs Senior Animal Rescue is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on rehoming dogs 6 and older through a foster-based program. Funded through community support and operated by devoted volunteers, the organization hopes to help fill a need in the care of senior rescues. Many older dogs are overlooked when people are seeking to adopt them. Our rescue will work to change that perspective and show how much joy can be experienced through the love of these dogs!

Salty Dogs’ mission is to provide older animals in need with a loving home environment while seeking their forever families. To educate through community awareness compassion and care for senior pets. The rescue also addresses estate planning to provide for your pet(s) and a program for temporary pet care should you need rehabilitation in a medical facility.

Walter

Their first intake is a frisky 14-year-old terrier who was surrendered by his family after his owner passed away. Walter is the perfect example of what motivated us to start Salty Dogs. He was terrified to be in a shelter situation, hard of hearing, and developed a cancerous lymphoma on his rear leg. But taking this senior out of that busy environment and placing him in a foster home made all the difference! He loves all people and furry friends, walks (with all the smells),  head scratches, and belly rubs. The tumor on Walter’s leg is not causing him pain and amputation at his age would not be advised, but just because his forever person is no longer here doesn’t mean Walter should be forgotten. He is an example of our hospice adoption; a compassionate home to live out the rest of his life. Knowing this can be a challenging role as an adopter but also so very rewarding when you feel the love you receive in return. Walter is available through their website.

As a new non-profit in the community, Salty Dog is looking for folks in many capacities. If you feel senior dog  rescue speaks to you please contact them at info@saltydogsrescue.org
