LOCAL RESCUE STORY: How Jack Sparrow Survived Being Shot, Saved, and Now Loved, Thanks to a Local Good Samaritan!

Southern Paws Animal Rescue, nicknamed SPAR, is a local 501C non-profit organization with two locations in North and South Carolina, specializing in saving dogs of any breed from neglect, abuse, abandonment, and dangerous or unhealthy living environments. Co-founder Debbie McLawhorn set out on a mission to restore an animal's health to ensure long lives and provide a "perfect" match between dog and adopter to avoid a possible return to the shelter. With loving arms and a mission to save, McLawhorn got a call about a dog in trouble, and she did not hesitate to bring in their newest resident, Jack Sparrow.

A Good Samaritan, Savannah McCants found a dog in excruciating pain on the side of the road, noticing bullet wounds all over his body, left there to suffer alone. McCants called Southern Paws Rescue, asking for help to save this vulnerable dog, who put his faith into the same species that hurt him. The extent of his injuries is heart-wrenching. Not only was he covered in bullet wounds from a shotgun all over his lower body, including his back, hind legs, and scrotum, but he could also barely walk. He was covered in past and present bite marks and had a severe ear infection. On top of that, he tested positive for heartworm, faces liver issues, and sadly will eventually lose his left eye from these past and current injuries. Above all, he has put his faith into the people trying to save him.
Faced with one of the worst cruelty cases McLawhorn had ever seen, he was also the sweetest dog she ever saved. So what do you name a dog who has persevered through all the pain the way this boy had? None other than after the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow! Jack Sparrow continues to rise above his past grievances and gives everyone he meets a new look on life. If he can continue to love people despite the pain he endured, maybe we can learn to forgive and let go of the little things.
Jack Sparrow is described as one of the sweetest boys to enter the rescue greeting people with kisses and snuggles each time they meet. He is getting stronger and stronger each day with the love and support of the non-profit and its donors. Every dog deserves a chance to feel loved throughout their lives, and to know people are not always ill-intentioned. Thanks to Jack's open heart and loving personality, he will undoubtedly find a home to give him all the love and support he needs.
