Subaru Uses Some Lowcountry Dogs for a National Campaign!

Subaru of America is known for using dogs in their commercials. In recent years, they have used a family of retrievers known as the Barkley’s in several spots. This fall, they continue their longtime use of dogs in creative ways and expands their focus on hardest-to-adopt shelter dogs.

A commitment to caring for pets is integral to the Subaru Love Promise and this year, Subaru is expanding its dedication by establishing National Make A Dog’s Day on Oct. 22. Working with Nat Geo and photographer, Vincent Musi, they set out to cast dogs from the Lowcountry for this new campaign. We had the pleasure of helping them find some “underdogs” for this new and unique campaign which featured dogs from local rescues like Valiant Animal Rescue, Eunoia Rescue , Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary and Pet Helpers. Some of the dogs are currently up for adoption like Charlie from Eunoia Rescue and Ray Charles from Hallie Hill and some were great rescue stories of previously adopted animals like Diego and Echo from Valiant Animal Rescue and Mace who was originally rescued by Sinbad Sadie Second Chance Rescue.

“Dogs with special needs are often overlooked in shelters," says Brian Cavallucci, national advertising manager of Subaru of America. With the new commercials, "we highlight their unique charm, help the world fall in love with them, and hopefully, get many of them adopted."

Throughout October, select Subaru retailers across the country will collect unused pet supplies and donate 5,500 shelter supply kits and 4,800 new pet parent kits to local shelters. More than 100 participating Subaru retailers will work in conjunction with animal shelters in their communities to host pet adoption events.

The above commercial as well as spots with each individual dog are being run across the country on cable and national television networks as well as an online campaign. We were luckily enough to attend some of the shoots for this campaign and see these great underdogs in action.
