Wild Heir Labrador Rescue Adoptable Dogs
by Gillian Nicol on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 10:33am | filed in
On this Adoptable Dog Friday, LCD is featuring Wild Heir Labrador Rescue. All adoptable Labs are kept at private residences, therefore, an approved adoption application is necessary to schedule a visit with the Labs. If you are unable to adopt at this time, sponsoring or fostering a Lab in need can be just as rewarding. WHLR has set up a fund for Junior's (#12) surgery; to donate click HERE.
1. Beck
- Beck is what I call close to the perfect Lab at almost 2 years old. He is tall and trim and a gorgeous "Lab-red" color. He is a sweet, loving, patient, anything goes, kind of guy. Beck gets along with dogs of all ages...there is not a dominant bone in his body. He loves to play and wrestle with our dogs, but his favorite place to be is wherever you are! He thinks if he crawls very slowly into your lap, you won't notice his 75 lbs. worth of love! Beck is very trustworthy in the house anytime a person is in it, BUT he has a fear of being abandoned again and gets nervous and chews things he shouldn't when all his people leave the house unless he is in a crate. We are looking for a home for Beck where he won't have to be home alone very much. If you are retired, or work from home...or can take him to work with you everyday, Beck might just be your best buddy!
2. Boone
- Boone is a good looking very light yellow guy who is about 2-3 years old, active and smart. He appears to be purebred. He craves the attention he did not get in his former home prior to being picked up as a stray by animal control and is extremely friendly. Boone is a real pleaser and very food oriented, and therefore easy to train. He gets along with other dogs, but prefers to be around people if possible. Boone is crate trained (loves his crate!), knows his name, loads up in the car and enjoys going for rides, knows sit and will wait until given the OK to dive into his food bowl
3. Buddy
- Buddy is a funny and handsome 9 year old (on the left) who is looking for a retirement home. He was left at a GA clinic with his friend Rowdy and came to Wild Heir in January 2010. Buddy gets along with everyone and is just a loving guy. He laid back and good with children, cats and other dogs. He has some arthritis or dysplasia in his hips causing him to have little muscle tone in his hind end, but is currently enrolled in indoor swimming classes to build strength. Buddy loves to go for walks or hang out in the yard or house. He is crate and house trained and really enjoys riding in the car with his nose in the wind!
4. Cain
- Can you say persaonlity plus??! Cain is a very sweet and engaging boy who was sadly owner surrendered because he liked to be top dog with the other male (intact) dog in the family. Go figure...He is very respectful with humans and gets along with most dogs-females and less dominant males especially ,and doesn't mind little pups either. He's fine with the cats in the house but wants to chase them in the yard, but does respond well to verbal cues like "NO". He loves jumping into his big wire crate and is also trustworthy in the house. Cain is a very bright, alert dog who is very eager to please. He really wants a person of his own to play with and hang out with. He does not jump, dig, chew destructively or nuisance bark. He loves hanging out in the yard or the house with a chewie. He's good with children and would do well as either an only pet or with a playmate.
5. Callie
- Callie is a beautiful, sweet, loving 3+ year old! She loves to go for walks, gets along with everyone including small children, and enjoys playing with her toys and chewies. She rides in the car and likes to go to the beach. She absolutely LOVES to play, run and wrestle with big boy dogs and gets along with all other nice dogs. Callie is house and crate trained, and responds well to firm, fair rules and routines which helps her to control her need to be in your lap! She is an extremely loyal girl who excels when knowing her place in the pack.
6. Window (Courtesy Listing)
- My name is Window and I have a story behind my name! I was once abandoned by my family who I THOUGHT loved me, at least that is what they told me when I was a cute puppy, but once I grew up they just abandoned me. They actually left me alone in the house. They moved out all their belongings but left me inside. They even took all my food with them! I just knew they would come back though. I sat waiting and waiting and waiting for days on end ! But I got SO hungry and thirsty that I jumped through a sliding glass door to get out. I just HAD to find some food and water. I was just SO skinny! The neighbors saw me and grabbed me up. They took me to the local SPCA where they stitched up and fixed my legs and face all up. They called my foster mom, Danielle for her help. She took me in and fed me some GREAT food. She babied me until my legs felt all better! She fattened me up really quickly! I loved it! She kept me for about eight months to make sure that I would be okay in a home. I then found what I THOUGHT would be my forever home but he has since called Danielle and told her that he can no longer keep me. He is not able to feed me. Since I was uncared for to begin with I have heart worms which the vet has me on what they call the slow kill method- she can explain it later! I HATE cats! So I have to be placed in a home with NO possibility for me to get a hold of those pesky things! Other than that I am a lover and snuggler! PLEASE help find me a forever home that I can finally relax in. I am between 3-4 years old and still have PLENTY of puppy in me!!!
7. Evie
- Evie is a gentle hearted clown! She needs a strong pack leader to help this cute little bundle of toy-driven energy harness her energy positively. Evie has OCD issues towards fetching toys and is able to leap tall fences in a single bound...she isn't the dog for everyone...but she just might be the dog for YOU! She will do best on some acreage, with someone who LOVES to play fetch and has time to devote towards her.
8. Grant
- Grant is looking for his forever home! He is a couch potato that is happiest just laying in the room with you. He has the gorgeous coloring of coal black, shiny, short fur and bright gold eyes. He loves everyone and is currently in a foster home with small children, a dog and several cats. He is a little clumsy with the little kids so his foster Mommy stated that he will be best with bigger children but, she added that his current "kids" crawl on him and he loves it! Please give this good boy a space to call home!
9. Harry
- Harry is a SUPER labby companion. Around 4-5 years old he has adjusted very well to indoor living and has great house manners. He is fully house trained and is able to stay home without being put into a crate. Harry enjoys playing fetch with tennis balls and chasing frisbees. His newest love is for his frisbee which he loves to chase and catch. In the evenings, Harry likes to lounge around with his foster family after a romp in the park with his labby sister. At night, Harry sleeps on the floor in the bedroom and couldn't be happier. He is well trained walking on a leash but gets a little excited & pulls when he sees other dogs... we are working on his leash manners and he seems to be getting better. Harry would do anything for attention and he can never get enough TLC. Harry knows how to sit on command and is very food driven, he would do anything for a biscuit! Harry is a great dog that would be great for anyone who lives an active lifestyle or he would also be good for people who aren't as active since Harry enjoys lounging around as much as he enjoys chasing his frisbee!!!
10. Hunter
- Hunter is around 3 years old and recently entered rescue with her 10 month old puppy, Duke. Her owner died and she was sent to the Hampton County dog pound! She is housetrained and gets along well with other dogs. Hunter is a friendly girl and is great with kids. Hunter is very easy going and a great all around dog in a house without an alpha her size.
11. Joey
- Is your New Year's resolution to get back into shape? Don't spend a lot of money on a gym membership. Instead get yourself a walking/jogging partner named Joey! He is a handsome black lab mix (we think some Dalmation) that weighs approximately 65lbs. Joey is good with properly introduced boy dogs, loves girl dogs and eager to meet new people. He would love to be a part of your active lifestyle. He is great in the house, loves going places and riding in the car. He is crate trained, as well, and ready for an active, attentive home .
12. Junior
- Junior is black Lab mix, slightly smaller than his 12 brothers and sisters. They were born March 8, 2009. Junior is a tough little guy who is protective of his family, but also very loving and gentle. He gets along well with people and other dogs. He can hold his own during wrestle time with his siblings, but prefers to play more gently. He is curious and loves to explore. One of his most favorite things to do is to chew gently on his sister Dakota's ears for as long as she will allow it. Junior is very well behaved in the house, except that he loves to shred newspapers. He loves to lay on the leather couch! He is crate trained and actually enjoys his quiet alone time now and then.
13. Lila
- Meet Lila. She's a petite 10 year old black Labby mix. Lila was very confused and forlorn when she found herself dumped in a high kill shelter. She couldn't understand how she ended up in such a scary place! When she first came into rescue she was very shy and often went outside and sat by the gate barking - we think she thought she'd been dognapped and wanted to go home! In time, Lila has come out of her shell and is learning to love and trust again. She likes hanging out with her foster dad's other fur kids and she's even started wagging her tail and taking treats out of his hand. Lila likes to go for walks and is a well behaved older lady. She doesn't ask for a lot - just a gentle touch, loving kindness and a nice soft bed!
14. Lucky
- The amazing Mama is the reason the puppies in our care are so beautiful, intelligent and sweet! She has been through alot thanks to a life of neglect, yet she has the sweetest disposition and gentle spirit. She is still nursing her little ones so won't be available for aprx 3 weeks but if you open your home to her you will have a devoted and appreciative companion. She is approximately 3-4 years old.
15. Oakley
- Oakley, a stately name for a sweet, friendly Lab. He is a water hound and does the funniest "scoop" of his water...putting his whole mouth in! SO cute! About 80 lbs and 5 years old and waiting for his forever family. Good car rider and other dog friendly...just an all around great fella! Oakley is much more handsome than his shelter pictures. His thick black carpet coat is shinny and soft. A curious expression shows his Lab ears, broad head and beautiful eyes. He does not jump on you and responds well to correction, a good boy who wants to please
16. Roman
- Roman is the most LOVEABLE lab you will ever meet! He is everything you would expect a 2 1/2 year old Lab to be: high energy, sweet disposition, just wants to be around you. He is crate trained and he does still chew some things when unsupervised. We're working on that. He loves to get outside and run and play, and he is the perfect companion to take for a jog on a leash! He is adaptable to whatever the situation calls for, and when he's tired, he loves to chew on a good bone before bedtime. Roman is AWESOME, and now just needs his forever home!
17. Rosebud
- See photo in slideshow. No bio provided.
18. Sadie
- Sadie is a sweet, cuddly, loyal dog who listens very well. Her favorite hobbies include going for walks, supervising cooking, and sitting devotedly by your side. She's very pretty and feminine and gets lots of compliments on her looks and lovely eyes. She loves to play with you and gets very silly and goofy, especially when she's trying to make you laugh. She's definitely a velcro-dog, following her favorite person from room to room, but will settle down in the house. She prefers women over men but she'll accept men after getting to know them. She needs her daily walks/runs or exercising with other dogs, but she's wonderfully mellow in the house. Sadie is SO eager to please and is naturally obedient. After the first few minutes of excitement, she's got good leash manners (except around squirrels). She knows the following commands: Sit, lie down, give me your paw, give me your other paw, stay, wait, come, spin right, spin left, and crawl! She LOVES training time, it's the best part of her day because she gets lots of praise, encouragement, and treats. She's got the typical lab mouthiness and loves to use her mouth in playing. Sadie is fine around cats that won't run from her and actually has a kitten friend, but she will chase anything that runs from her, including cats, squirrels, small dogs, and children. She likes other dogs but is not good at reading their body language, so she annoys them easily. Sadie would do best with an active, playful male big dog friend or as an only dog unless the owner is experienced and dog-savvy. Sadie would love to find her forever home for the summer!
19. Sadie (Senior)
- Sadie is an 9 year female looking for a forever home. She was rescued from an animal shelter simply because of her age! She is a sweetheart and each day she seems to come out of her shell a little more, and her tail wags a little more. Beyond her graying face and sparkling eyes you could hardly tell she is 8 years old! She lives to go on long runs and walks, and then enjoys even longer naps. Sadie has been quick to learn new routines and is a good listener. She plays well with all kids - 2 and 4 legged alike, she rarely barks and loves a good bone. She would make a very easy addition to a loving home.
20. Will
- Will loves to be your "buddy by your chair" while you read and your friend to take strolls through the neighborhood with (he is GREAT on a leash!) He is a big guy, so he's a great companion for someone that wants to give onlookers a little pause before they run in your house or up to you...but he is a pussycat in disguise! He loves to lay out in the sunshine on pretty days or cuddle up on his fluffy bed at night. Most of all-he wants to be with his people! He loves the little kids at his foster home though appreciates quiet the best, is nonchalant about the kitty, doesn't mind other dogs, doesn't jump up on you, not a chewer or a digger....what? Is he perfect????? He just might be the perfect dog for YOU! Will is ready to find his forever home!
