There's an App for That

If you dream it, someone will build an app for that. Well, maybe not EVERYTHING. Last time I checked, there wasn’t an app that magically made the dog poo in the backyard disappear (though Doody Calls will make that happen for you). But, there is still a bevy of new iphone and droid apps designed to make pet ownership easier. Here’s a brief rundown of what we feel are at the top of the app pack.

Pet Dossier – Keep your dog’s vet records, tag ID numbers and other pertinent health information at your fingertips. In an ever-growing paperless society, this is a wonderful app that helps you always have your pet’s vital information. You never know when you’ll need this info, and you won’t have to go digging through attic storage for paper files. For the iphone.$1.99. Get it HERE

FidoFactor – the quickly growing FidoFactor bills itself as the "Yelp for Dogs", and is a go to resource for all things dog in numerous cities across the US. From dog friendly restaurants to groomers to dog parks, FidoFactor contains locations, hours, brief write ups and reviews of pet product and service providers. LCD has added numerous locations into FidoFactor for Charleston. Why don’t you contribute some reviews? This app is also wonderful for traveling pooches. For the iphone. Free. Click HERE.

DogPark by Dogster – Use this app as if it's facebook for dogs. Connect with other dog owners, set up playdates, exchange advice and send “gifts” to all your doggie friends. Iphone. Free. Click HERE

PetMD’s Dog First Ad – This handy app helps you indentify common canine emergencies and gives clear advice on what to do until you can get your dog to the vet. Well worth the $1.99 price. Iphone. Get it HERE

Petfinder.com - The Petfinder.com app lets you search more than 290,000 pets from over 13,000 shelters and rescue groups in the palm of your hand. Find your new furry family member today! Iphone. Free. Click HERE.

Google’s Translate for Animals - This application allows you to record animal sounds and have the sounds analyzed and translated by Google Translate into 52 supported languages. With animal translation you can finally understand why Rover keeps growling at your neighbor. For the Droid. Free. Get it HERE.

Dog Whistle – Get your dog’s attention and work on training with the Dog Whistle for Droid users. The app generates whistle frequencies from 12000Hz to 44000Hz, among which you can find one that your dog will response to, but humans are not able to hear! .99 Droid. Get it HERE.

Clicker – This droid app is pretty simple but indispensablee if you are working on clicker training with your dog. The app turns your phone into a clicker! .99.  Droid. Get it HERE

Dog Trivia - The perfect trivia game for you dog lovers! Test your knowledge and compare how you rank globally! Dog Trivia is filled with 5 banks of trivia. It's an interactive, fun, and feature rich trivia game for everyone in the family! .99. for the Droid. Find it HERE.

PetBook - Stores information about your dog, cat, or other pet. Make a gallery from pictures on your phone. Store veterinary information, including medications and vaccinations. Store groomer information and appointments. Store notes and export profiles via email. Droid. Free. Click HERE to get it.

Here's a specific one for the Charleston area -- aQuasi-app of the Gowalla Charleston dog park tour from Eugene Mah, a LCD reader, fan and volunteer with Wild Heir Lab Rescue. Thanks to Eugene for compiling Click HERE
