Hey there pretty lady!

Riverdogs Wrap-Up

I recently heard someone say "Why would you want to take your dog to a baseball game?", but I think a much better question is: Why WOULDN'T you want to take your dog to a baseball game? I love baseballs. They are so leathery and round and chewable… oh and I love the game too, the game is great!

Last weekend I went to the one of the Dog Days at the Charleston Riverdogs. They usually offer three games like that a season but a lot of people seem surprised when I tell them about it, like they didn't even know such a cool thing existed. So I'm here to spread the word.

You can order your tickets online or buy them at the park. I always try to get mom to get us seats in a prime petting section. When you get to the entry gate your mom or dad has to sign a form saying that you will be a good pup, then you get to go into the stadium (a baseball stadium has so many good smells). At the top of the stairs they have wading pools set up so you can cool off and meet and greet. Sadie and I stopped to sniff hello with two other labs enjoying the pools. The lady selling programs even had her white shepherd tagging along.

We got to our seats and the nice beer man said hi to us and gave us a huge chunk of ice to lick on during the game. The family sitting behind us had a cool Australian Shepherd and they had tasty treats they didn't mind sharing. Charlie T. Riverdog and Chelsea came by our section and I gave Charlie a thorough checking out; his dance moves are highly suspect. During one of the inning breaks there was a competition of musical sit and the white shepherd expressed his displeasure for losing by 'marking' the field, can't say that I blame him. And then to top it all off the Riverdogs won! The one thing I wish they would add is a Dogs Run the Bases after the game like they sometimes let kids do, I would really like to run on that field.

The last Charleston Riverdogs Dog Day of the season that I know of is coming up June 27th at 5:05pm against the Greenville Drive. Now, if you are ready to take it to the next level the Atlanta Braves (my favorite team!) offer a couple of Bark in the Park games, the next scheduled one is August 29th against the Florida Marlins. You have to pre-register for that, but it's totally fun.

I love taking my Boykin, Jake, to the games. We went last year and again this year. Jake looks most forward to relaxing in the pool while there. Cheers to the Riverdogs for a great dog-friendly event!
