National Pet Fire Safety Day is July 15th

What would you do if there was a fire at your house while you were away?

"Oh, that would never happen to me."

But what if it did? Who would you call to help get your pups out of harm's way? July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day and fire departments across the Lowcountry are teaming up to help spread the word. With an estimated 500,000 pets affected by home fires each year, Pet Fire Safety Day is designed to educate the public on how they can prevent and prepare for emergencies and present solutions for reducing these tragic instances.

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has partnered with ADT Security Services and the American Kennel Club to graciously educate pets and their owners about potential risks. It is a firefighter's duty to ensure the safety of everyone in the household, including pets, but it becomes difficult to do this when they are unaware of any pets inside.

To resolve this situation, everyone is urged to pick up free window clings that can be marked with the number and types of pets inside. This helps the firefighters know who to look for and to make sure everyone is out of the house.

Here are a list of window cling distribution points across the Lowcountry:

Ashley River Fire Department
8045 Dorchester Road
Charleston Heights, SC  29418-2902

Belvedere Fire Department
204 Hampton Ave
Belvedere, SC 29841

Howe Springs Fire District
2229 E. Howe Springs Road
Florence, SC  29505-4017

Lexington Fire Service
212 S. Lake Drive, Suite 502
Lexington, SC  29072
If you are not able to pick up a window cling, you can also request a free one from the ADT website. Get your window cling today and have your worries and doubts put to rest that all of your pups will be safe in the event of an emergency.
