Local Shelters and Rescues Applaud USPS Stamps to Raise Shelter Pets Awareness

Across the low-country animal advocates are thrilled to support the release of the USPS “Adopt A Shelter Pet” stamps. The stamps, which go on sale at Post Offices on April 30th, picture shelter pets which were adopted and given good homes. The stamps are available online at www.stampstotherescue.com.

The www.stampstotherescue.com website has a counter that shows the number of stamps purchased which in turn will feed a million animals. This cause is supported by Halo Pet Food, which is co-owned by Ellen DeGeneres, and will donate up to 1 million meals nationwide to local animal shelters and Halo will donate 5,000 meals for animal shelters in SC. In order to help more animals and encourage people to spread the word, USPS has printed more of these stamps than any other commemorative stamp: 300 million (normal printing, 25-40 million)

"Thousands of pets are euthanized right here in South Carolina annually, we want to help by raising awareness about this problem. This is a tremendous way to promote shelter pet adoptions and showcase the great shelter cats and dogs that wait for a second chance at forever homes" says Carol Linville, Pres/Founder Pet Helpers.

Jim Bush. Executive Director of the Charleston Animal Society explains that the CAS plans to "use stamps on all our letters and correspondence. More stamps on envelopes will send the message to more supporters—worldwide.”

You can support Animal Rescue efforts by adopting a pet, volunteering at a shelter, buying the stamps or just getting the word out by sharing this article about the program.

5,000 meals will be donated to animal shelters in SC.
