How Big is Too Big?
Traveling with pets used to be a pain in the tail, especially locating a pet-friendly hotel. Online companies have been trying to make things easier by compiling lists of pet friendly hotels, and numerous apps have been released to help users in their quest for finding fur-friendly vacation spots, but one aspect has been left out - until now.
Sure fido can come stay at our hotel, as long as he is under 20...25...30 [fill in desired number] pounds.
The most frustrating thing is when you show up to check into a hotel, only to find out that your English Mastiff is well over the weight limit for the hotel's allowable size. But a new campaign hopes to change things, so dogs of all sizes can easily travel with their families. This campaign is called “Give Big Dogs A Break” and was launched by two groups, Go Pet Friendly and And A Small Dog. They are asking people to sign a petition in support of big dogs being allowed to stay at hotels.
This whole topic makes you stop and wonder, why exactly DO hotels have restrictions on weight? If hotels are so worried about noise or destruction from larger dogs, then they might as well forbid children between the ages of 2 and 18 from staying in hotels too. I jest. I jest. But, there are plenty of small dogs that make a lot of noise and destruction, and that's no laughing matter.
If noise and destruction is not the case, then maybe hotel management is worried about the liability if a big dog were to jump up on another guest. But what if a large dog owner was able to provide proof of the dog's Canine Good Citizenship registration? If pet hair is the problem, why not put a ban on long haired dogs? What gives with the weight restrictions?
So now it is your turn to vote in our poll: How Big is Too Big?
