Hittin' the trails with Zeke

Hi, I'm Ezekiel Choco-Taco Ayers, but most folks call me Zeke the lab. I have a blog where I post pictures (my mom thinks it is hilarious to dress me up) and write about the fun stuff I do. I love to get out and hike with my mom and dad and check out all the dog friendly places around. Leah from Lowcountry Dog thought it would be cool if I shared some of our adventures here and maybe help get more people excited about all the great things to do with your pooch in our area. Note to fellow canines: It's important to get your people outside and have some fun with them, it helps reduce their stress level.

So, a little about me: I'm two and a half years old and have one older sister named Sadie and demon spawn cat beast named Mack (I really don't have any personal problems with Mack, but he does have some anger issues he needs to work through). I used to work at Fox Music House as the official greeter lab. I loved going to work everyday and seeing my co-workers and meeting new people. My mom took me to work with her ever since I was 8 weeks old and then last Christmas she decided to go back to school and I was forced into early retirement. But it's not been all terrible, we still go back and visit and now have more time for dog parks.

One of my personal goals this year is to hike the Swamp Fox passage of the Palmetto Trail. The Swamp Fox passage is a 42 mile section of trail that runs through Charleston and Berkeley counties, which may sound daunting, but if you break it down into a bunch of day hikes it's actually pretty relaxed and enjoyable. The trick can knowing where to park to do the shorter hikes. I'll be sharing some more info on that in future posts. We've been logging miles here and there, not keeping a strict schedule, but mom is keeping track to make sure we do the whole thing. The picture above is from the US 17 trailhead in Awendaw, we did about a 6 mile roundtrip hike that day and it took us about 3 hours with stops for water breaks.

So come back and check out my posts here as your canine correspondent and in the in between time you can check out my site www.ZekeTheLab.com

Hi Zeke, my name is Guinness and I love the trails too. My parents often take me running and I like the forest so much better than the road. The most I've run so far is around 27km or 17 miles. I love the idea of going on a really long trail walk over several days because I love camping too.

You can see a picture of me and my other canine running buddy at http://www.poochto5k.com - look forward to reading more about your escapades.

Whoa, a 17 mile run sounds pretty far to me, way to go Guinness! Thanks for the comment, I liked your site--my dad is really big into helping me and Sadie maintain a healthy weight.
