Frozen Treat Delights

Though the summer is coming to a close, there are still hot days ahead for those of us on the South Carolina coast. Here's some easy frozen treat recipes your dog is sure to enjoy! These recipes are not intended for dogs with allergies or who are on special diets. Make sure to consult with your vet first.

*Note -- All of these require the use of an old fashioned ice cube tray. It's a good idea to mark the tray as the dog's tray. Who wants a chicken broth ice cube in their sweet tea? :)

Yogurt Yum Yum

Mix 32 ounces plain yogurt with 3 tablespoons honey until you have a runny consistency. Pour into ice cube trays. Place in freezer until frozen, pop out and enjoy! I've also heard of people adding baby food to this to give their dogs some extra fruits and veggies (bananas, green beans, carrots, are all good for dogs)

Beef Surprise

Blend one pound of hamburger meat with half a bag of frozen peas and water until runny.  Cook on high heat. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Pop them out and enjoy.

Banana-Rama

Blend 1 banana, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter 2 tablespoons honey and 32 ounces of yogurt. Pour into trays, freeze and enjoy!

The Absolute No Effort Treat

Freeze beef or chicken broth in the ice cube trays. Your dogs will LOVE you. (even more than they already do)

If you have a recipe you'd like to share with other Lowcountry Dog readers, email ingredient lists and directions to gillian@lowcountrydog.com. We're hoping to keep this an ongoing Friday column so we need your recipes!
