Foster Fridays: Lucy the Found Hound
Hi! My new name is LUCY. I love my new name because when people say it to me they usually give me food! Not that long ago I almost died from not having enough food, at least that is what I hear my foster-mom tell people. I remember being lost and very cold and very hungry. In fact, I was so cold and hungry I was too weak to run away from the nice lady that found me on her porch. She gave me food and a nice warm place to sleep. I was so grateful I licked her hand!
That nice lady took me to the lady that takes care of me now, my foster-mom as she calls herself, and now I am never cold or hungry! I love my new life! There are many nice dogs here, and one of them is my favorite playmate. Click here to see us playing! I have my own crate which I like very much, it make me feel safe to have my own space. Now that it is not so cold outside I like being in the yard even more. And when I am allowed to be loose in the house I am always on my best behavior. I never chew anything and I scratch at the door to ask to go out if I need to go potty. Oh, and I never, ever bark. That would just be too rude!
Sometimes my foster-mom puts a leash on me and takes me places. I jump right up into the crate in the car and settle down for the ride. I don't mind the leash at all, even though I would rather not be quite that close to people. I consider it rude to be in someone else's personal space like that, even my foster-mom's, but I try to overcome my excessive politeness when treats are involved! When people ask what kind of a hound I am, foster-mom says "A Found-Hound!"
I feel much better now than I did when the nice people first rescued me, they say I am ready to find my forever home. I hope a forever home is as nice as this one is! I like being allowed inside where it is warm and also having a safe fenced yard to play in with other nice dogs that don't scare me or play too rough. My foster-mom says I will need a special person to understand my sweet, shy nature. I am sure that when that person finds me I be the happiest dog in the world!
From Lucy's foster-mom:
Lucy is a female hound (Walker? Fox?) estimated to be about 5-7 years old who was literally at death's door from starvation and exposure when rescued Thanksgiving 2010. A "disposable" hunting dog with an ear-tattoo, Lucy had birthed multiple litters for her former owner or hunt-club, yet was dumped without her hunt-collar to fend for herself when she was deemed no longer useful.
Initially weighing 40 lbs when found, Lucy is now up to 55 lbs. She is shy with people but walks nicely on lead, rides well in a car, likes her crate and appears to be house-trained. She is very playful with dogs her size and smaller and would make an excellent companion for another dog looking for a playmate. She is currently being fostered in Charleston SC.
