We have a golden retriever puppy (12 weeks today) and what worked for us was just being diligent. We would take him out every 30 minutes or so and then when he went, would give him a treat. The key is to have the treats with you because you don't want the puppy to get used to running back inside for the treat - remember, you only have 8 seconds of memory time in order to capture an action with training.
I have a 4 month old puppy and I am having a very hard time housebreaking her. I've had her for a little over 2 months and she isn't making very much progress. I give her treats when she goes outside, I correct her when I catch her going in the house, and I take her out when I think she is about to go but she just isn't getting it. Sometimes she'll cry and I'll take her out, she won't go, then when I take her back in, she goes in the house! I'm about to move into an apartment and I need her to be housebroken so she doesn't ruin the carpet. Any suggestions? Is there any place where I can get professional help?
