Anyone have suggestions of dog food brands for dogs prone to things like hot spots, hair loss, dryness, itchiness, etc?

Hmm here's a big topic. After selling 100's of different foods over the last ten years I think this is remains a hard question to answer. Here's why: every dog is different. They are as different as the number of foods out there. What's good for Sparky makes Harry barf, or Lucie itch like mad.

Here's the advice from Dolittle's - switch foods. I've seen dogs go from grocery store brand to another (not my favorites) and their coats get better. The switch works. Bodies, even dog's, become adapted to proteins and eventually revolt against them. So switch today.

It's okay we're here for you. Note to LCD maybe you need a forum for switch stories.

Once, way back years ago, I switched my boy dog from a chicken based food to a fish based food (Salmon, I think) and his skin issues cleared up. But, they weren't that bad to begin with - I agree...we all "are what we eat" so if you change up the diet, it could help.

I definately agree with Dolittles on changing the food. My past experience has shown that a Grain-Free diet usually works best for dogs with hair loss, allergies and dryness. A quality fish oil supplement is a good idea for most dogs with dry skin but taking the grains out of the diet seems to do the most good.

Oh, I'm TOTALLY in agreement with fish oil supplements. Being a greyhound owner/enthusiast/crazy person, there are lots of greys with hair loss (specifically on their butt, but sometimes belly and neck). My girl was like this when I got her. A year or two after I adopted her (or her me, whatever!) I began giving her one 1000 mg fish oil pill (really, I started with flax oil pills but transitioned to fish oil bought at WalMart or Puritan's Pride) per day and she has the most gorgeous fur now! Soft, shiny...and gosh, doesn't she have fur on her butt and neck! I don't know if she'll ever grow any fur on her belly...but what she has grown is gorgeous!

Fish oil rocks!

Saw Palmetto (not verified)

Cool to see someone that loves this as much as me
Here's my site for Fenugreek and Bitter Melon
