SPCA HOSTS 10TH ANNUAL OYSTER ROAST, SILENT AUCTION
Tickets are now on sale for the 10th Annual Downs Byrd Memorial Oyster Roast and Silent Auction scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 6-10 p.m. at the George Miler Country Club in Summerville. Tickets are $25 per person.
“We hope everyone will open their hearts and wallets and bid on the many silent auction items that will be available during the oyster roast,” said Stephen L. Jackson, President of the Frances R. Willis SPCA. “Show Some Love for your local SPCA is the theme of the event which precedes Valentine’s Day. Make the homeless animals of Dorchester County your valentines this year.”
The event will feature oysters and a cash bar plus desserts made by members of the Junior Service League. Pizza will be available for those people who don’t eat oysters. Oyster lovers are encouraged to bring their knives, gloves, and a philanthropic spirit.
“We appreciate the generous support the business community has shown as sponsors we’ve put this event together,” said Jackson. “We hope everyone in Dorchester County will buy tickets to the event and enjoy an evening of delicious oysters, music and some wonderful silent auction items.”
Tickets are $25 and on sale at the SPCA shelter located at 136 Four Paws Lane, at Westbury Veterinary Clinic at 1497 W. 5th North Street, and Patterson Printing at 402 Old Trolley Road in Summerville or from any SPCA board member. Local DJ Wendell Nolan will provide the music for the evening.
Auction items currently include: an autographed die cast car from NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, a two-night stay at the Historic Hampton Inn and Suites in Savannah, a Carolina Panthers mini helmet signed by Jake Delhomme, golf packages at local courses and many more items are being gathered.
“Everyone should make time to enjoy this special evening and find some items to bid on and take home, said Jackson. The lost, abandoned and abused dogs and cats of Dorchester County are counting on us to support them.”
The Frances R. Willis SPCA is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday for adoptions. The SPCA is closed on Wednesdays. If you would like to make a financial donation to the shelter or become a volunteer or foster home, visit www.summervillespca.com or call 871-3820.
